My name is Denise and I have lived in the Kalamazoo area of Michigan most of my life. I am registered nurse at Bronson Methodist Hospital specializing in Orthopedics and Neurology. I am also certified in gerontology. I currently work full time and belong to several shared governence councils.
I have had a fascination with parrots since I was a small child. As I countinue to learn about these amazing animals, the more amazed I become. I am a member of the Great Lakes Avicultural Society (G.L.A.S.). We meet monthly in the Grand Rapids area.

You can learn more about G.L.A.S. by visiting our links page. I recently have been a guest on the Reading Train and Parrotville U.S.A. out of the Grand Rapids area WKTV. I have done presentations all over the Michigan area for schools, libraries, camps and most recently for Radio Disney at the Detroit Freedom Festival. My primary focus is educating people, while having fun at the same time.
I have worked in conjunction with Dr. Charles Mehne to rehabilitate injured waterfowl and to return them back into the wild. Having a large pond in my back yard helps with this. One of my "patients", a Muscovy duck, has taken up residence and claims the pond and yard as HIS!
I share my home with a husband, son, a Japanese foreign exchange student, 3 dobermans and of course, several feathered companions. Check out the Bird Bios to see pictures and learn a little more about them.
I hope that Avian Wonders will educate and amaze thousands in the future while improving our partnership with these beautiful animals.
